Steve May had great fun illustrating Guy Bass‘ new book, Aidan Abet, Teacher’s Pet, published this month by Barrington Stoke.

“Aidan Abet, Teacher’s Pet! Peed his pants and now they’re wet!” is the taunt that class bullies Robert and Robin, known as the Unrelated Robinsons, greet Aidan with everyday at school. He didn’t like them and in his opinion, they were like animals and he didn’t like animals either. They make Aidan’s life miserable but he knows the key to surviving at school – it’s making himself indispensable to the teacher!

Unfortunately, Miss Vowel is the new teacher and there’s something distinctly odd about her and the menagerie of animals that she brings with her. Strange things start to happen, Maxwell “Big Max” Small disappears and then it almost seems that the animals are warning Aidan of danger… He has a choice to make – he can listen to the animals, or he can become the Ultimate Teacher’s Pet.

Steve’s expressive and characterful illustrations bring Guy’s tale to life, added to which, this book has a ‘super-readable’ layout and font, printed on pioneering tinted paper, particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant and dyslexic readers aged 8+.
