Spike Gerrell

Based in North London with his family, some cats and an apiary full of honeybees, Spike has been supplying his 'spiky nosed' illustrations to a whole host of clients since graduating from Central Saint Martins.

A firm grounding in quick turn-around editorial work, with ridiculously short deadlines has kept his work fresh and adaptable. His thoughtful use of humour and his ability to translate the most complex of subjects into an easily digestible, and appropriate, visual form allows him to tackle the most diverse range of briefs for a wide range of clients. He is equally at home working in children’s publishing, most notably for his black and white illustrations that bring to life the best-selling Football School non-fiction series written by Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton.

Spike's original and inventive world is peopled with a constantly evolving cast of characters and Heath Robinson-style machines. There are genetically challenged humanoids, be-masked animals from long abandoned gene pools and minions with a propensity for wearing full body balaclavas and hard hats.
