My Story: Ignatius Sancho
Published by Scholastic
This is the extraordinary true story of a young boy’s life: a slave, a servant, a business owner, a campaigner, a composer, a writer.
It starts in Greenwich 1738, with eight-year-old Ignatius who lives with three sisters. Not as a member of their family, but as a servant and more or less a pet – a toy. Living with the constant threat of being sent to the West Indies to be enslaved on a sugar plantation – Ignatius must escape and start to build a real and brilliant life for himself.
