Our artists sometimes produce character designs for pitch work that, for whatever reason, never see the light of day – but it’s always interesting to see what does end up becoming the final product.
I’m sure most people have seen the John Lewis animated Christmas TV advert this year and many of you will have checked out the ‘behind the scenes’ video too. Back in April of this year, Chris Garbutt was asked by Passion Pictures to develop some bear and hare character designs for their pitch for this high profile job. Unfortunately, John Lewis chose another director and went in a different direction and the finished ad is an innovative combination of 2D stop motion drawings shot on a 3D set. But, I think you’ll agree that Chris came up with some adorable characters.
