Ahoy me hearties! We’re very pleased to announce that Matilda and Jim Lad from Jonny Duddle’s award winning picture book, The Pirates Next Door, are back for more piratey adventures. The Jolly-Rogers and the Ghostly Galleon is the first in a new fiction series, written and illustrated by Jonny, published this month by Templar. This swashbuckling tale starts in the sleepy seaside village of Dull-on-Sea where, every full moon, a mysterious ship is seen off it’s coast and pirates loot the land. When gold and jewellery go missing from the town, the feisty Matilda calls on her friend, Jim Lad and his family, to help her retrieve the stolen booty from the mysterious ship before the moon fades! Will they vanquish the scurvy crew or will they end up stuck on board with the ghost pirates… forever? Well you don’t think we’re going to give the end of the story away do you?
For the lucky few who have already read Jonny’s first book for young readers, the feedback is brilliant, we particularly like LoveReading4Kids reviews by children. Here’s a taster from Matthew Wilson, aged 6: “Don’t panic everyone! It’s pirates. I like the way my Dad does all the voices. This is the best pirate story ever. The pictures are awesome. I give it 5 stars.”
The Jolly-Rogers and the Ghostly Galleon has already been shortlisted for the Independent Booksellers Book Award in children’s fiction so don’t delay, get yourselves to your nearest bookseller and cross their palm with some doubloons before they sell out!
