We Won the Cup! written and illustrated by Simon Bartram, is published this week by Rising Stars, part of Hodder Education.
This book is one many titles commissioned for Rising Stars’ Reading Planet for primary school children aged 5 to 7 years old. This reading scheme is underpinned by the latest evidence-based research into literacy development to help children to become reading-ready, by embedding phonics to deepen their comprehension. Simon had to ensure that his text met a specific criteria for the UK book banding system in schools and his brief was to write a 300 word story on a sports theme, featuring a team game that children aged 6-7 play. Being a Sunderland FC fan, the game of football was unsurprisingly Simon’s first choice and We Won the Cup was born!
It’s the cup final and Liam has just scored the winning goal! Now it’s time to take the photo of the winning team with the trophy, but somebody is missing … We can’t take the photo without EVERYONE who helped the team to win!
