Tomislav Tomic was commissioned by Aardman Animations to create the character designs for a Yara TV commercial called The Toughest Job. Founded in 1905 to solve emerging famine in Europe, Yara is the world leader in the production and distribution of mineral fertilizer. Tomislav worked closely with directors Karni & Saul, who wanted the characters to look ornate and detailed, similar to botanical illustrations but at the same time make them charming and expressive. It was important that the style looked natural, as the commercial talks about helping nature do its job.
