Welcome to our new illustrator - Dotty Sutton! We're potty about Dotty's creations and so excited to be working with her...
Fascinated by fantastical beasts and imaginary worlds from an early age, Dotty was always destined to follow her dreams and become an illustrator. Drawn to the coast, she studied Illustration at Falmouth University from where she graduated with a First Class Honours degree, swiftly followed by a clutch of awards including selection for the D&AD New Blood Academy.
Intrigued and inspired by everything from Greek mythology and nature documentaries to princesses and pirates Dotty relishes the research process creating illustrative work with an unparalleled authenticity and humour.
Recently shortlisted for a V&A Illustration award 2022 for her reportage project ‘The Chip Eaters of Falmouth’. Dotty spent a number of weeks documenting the people she found eating chips in her university seaside town.
As well as a masterful grasp of illustration Dotty is also an accomplished model maker working in a diverse array of mediums including paper craft, sculpting and photography, magically bringing her quirky and playful characters to life. She has worked extensively with the London theatre company ‘The Vaults’, producing promotional poster artworks and typography logos for shows.
Dotty says about her work:
"Characters form the heart of all my work, which I explore through the use of colour and gentle humour. While there is darkness in the world, I strive to shine a little light, offering a playfulness that I hope brings a smile. I like things spiced with cinnamon, watching David Attenborough nature documentaries, pirates, Gericault’s ‘Raft of the Medusa’, and extra mature cheddar."
